Essay - 1181 Words

Over the past few decades the United States has moved away from its libertarian roots and has moved closer to an oligarchy ran by the few. In this way it is a government for the people, rather than by the people. One specific event has changed American politics forever, this was the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. On this day, the United States came under direct attack by terrorists. In the months and years after, the government pounced on the opportunity to grow government under the false pretense of â€Å"security† through the Patriot Act and invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. As a result, average working class American citizens are now forced to fund a perpetual War on Terror and hand over their private communication†¦show more content†¦In response to these horrific attacks on Americans, Former President George W. Bush used the tragedy as a moment to seize more government power. Rather than assassinating the individual terrorists, President Bush and Congress went overboard and claimed that the United States needed to lead a campaign to eliminate terror across the globe. Although this goal sounded relatively simple, the ramifications were much more complicated. Immediately following 9/11, President Bush requested an authorization for the use of military force against groups and nations supporting terror. In response, Congress passed these authorizations for military force prior to War in Iraq and Afghanistan (Bovard). Although President Bush had good intentions in such a stressful period, his decisions were not a good course of action. Over time, these congressional authorizations have become precedents for Presidents to exert military force without consenting Congress. The issue is that the President does not have the authority to declare war. The constitution explains that the branches of government are separate and there must be checks and balances. How can there be checks and balances when the Congress delegates the military to another branch of government? The president is meant to enforce the laws of the land, but not declare war or create legislation. The next major response to September 11th was the implementation of the Patriot Act. Reliever Compounds In Multiple Bio fluids â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Reliever Compounds In Multiple Bio Fluids? Answer: Introduction Data and information are important for any business and it represent confidential details regarding the company. In Australia, the communication and energy sector are leads in having the most compromised systems; while, in terms of DDoS activity, the communication sectors and financial sectors are the highest (Australian Cyber Security Centre 2017). However, all the sectors in Australia are suffered from network security attacks and mining and resource sectors suffered from highest number of spam and malicious e-mails (Australian Cyber Security Centre., 2017). Image 1: Sectors with compromised systems in Australia (Source: Australian Cyber Security Centre, 2017) Moreover, the network security also illustrates the problem of cybercrime and procurement fraud that is also growing tremendously in Australia according to the PwCs 2016 Global Economic Crime Survey (Perlman et al., 2016). Image 2: Global Economic Crime Survey 2016 (Source: Global Economic Crime Survey 2016 2017) Kahate (2013) moreover stated that data security in network should be accomplished as there is always a threat from hackers to hack all the crucial details of the company and utilize the same for unethical purpose. Thus, every organization needs to develop network data security in order to prevent industry sabotage and espionage of the important data. In this business report, the concept of information/network security will be illustrated along with three recent demands of network security applications adopted by organizations. In addition to that, the pros and cons of these applications and a proposal for implementing these applications for the next five years will also be presented. Lastly, discussion on whether to adapt customizing off-the-shelf applications or developing products in-house for security maintenance services will also be given. Concept of information or network security In this era of technology almost every work is accomplished through computers, machines and technological innovations. Tankard (2012) also depicts that computers are also used for the purpose of information security and trust in systems apart from completing the work fast and accurately. The terms information security can be describes through three concepts- confidentiality, integrity and availability (Kahate, 2013). Image 3: Information Security (Source: Global Economic Crime Survey 2016 2017) Manshaei et al. (2013) describes that the attainment of control for accessing the information from one system is known as confidentiality. Moreover, the assurance of transformation of information and programs in authorized manner is termed as integrity; whereas, assurance that only authorized members have the accessibility of information and resources is known as availability (Schneider 2012). Many organizations also develop security policy for the purpose of protection responsibilities, information values and organizational commitment (Tankard, 2012). In recent times, the security comes with the solutions of cloud as there are huge data for each single entity (organization). Yu et al. (2012) highlighted that cloud technology not only allows storing significant number of data but it also provide the chance to manipulate the data easily without redundancy. Cloud Access Security Brokers is the recent technology that provides Service (SaaS) apps to offer visibility and control options (Gonzalez et al. 2012). Endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions is also a new technology that allows detection of security breaches and respond quickly so that accurate solutions can be incorporated (Mell, 2012). EDR is also combined with Indicators of Compromise (IOC) which also used to identify the network breaches at the initial stage. Another technology that is based on detection and response paradigm is Intelligence-driven security operations centers (ISOCs) that use the context-aware components to offer an adaptive architecture (Yu et al., 2012). In addition to that, the Remote Browser is used for to protect the e-mails from malicious messages and attacks. Three information/network security applications currently in the market and their uses The three network security applications that can be used by an organization are- authentication application (Kerberos), Web Security Standards (SSL/TLS) and e-mail and IP security (Kahate, 2013). Authentication Application (Kerberos) The authentication application Kerberos, the database of the clients are protected through private keys and the users register their preferred secret keys with Kerberos. Schrittwieser et al. (2012) sated that this concept is closely related to the data encryption and the Kerberos shared a session key and then forwards it to the clients and servers for message encryption. The success of this application is Kerberos Version 5 (Stallings Brown, 2012). In this case, client requests for a ticket granting service from the application, which then transferred the ticket to the clients and encrypted the ticket by following clients secret key. The issued ticket is then used by the server in order to evaluate whether or not it is the same client to whom the ticket is issued. Perlman et al. (2016) highlight that the ticket is used as many times till it expires. The client presents the ticket to the server with clients name, timestamp and encrypted session key that are also referred as authentic ator. Web Security Standards (SSL/TLS)- Citrix NetScaler Solution Fahl et al. (2012) depicts that there are some risks and treats based on locations and type of attacks. The risk may arise in server or client network that is then known as system security and the risk may arise in terms of network traffic that is referred as web security. Additionally, there are two types of attacks- passive attacks and active attacks. (Hodges et al., 2012) describes that passive attacks illustrates the accessing the traffic between server and browser. This attacks also denotes the accessing the crucial data and information on a website. In addition to that, the active attacks also referred to the situation where one person impersonating another user, alters information on a website and altering message in traffic. In order to overcome this adversity the application that is used is Netscape that originates the Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Raza et al. (2014) highlighted that the SSL also evaluates the concept of connections and sessions. Perlman et al. (2016) stated th at SSL only offer data encryption between SSL and TLS enabled mail servers. Image: Message transfer by using Web Security Standards (Source: Perlman et al. (2016) A connection offers suitable types of services; whereas, the session is considered as association between the server and a client. This application offer secure communication over the internet and the major functions of this application are- client authentication, data encryption and data integrity checks. Wire Shark Wireshark is an application that is use to capture, filter and inspect packets. This application is also known as Ethereal. This application also protects the IP address of a website from malicious attacks and is compatible with all kind of operating system like Linux, macOS, BSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows and Unix-like operating systems. The major functionality that this application performs are collecting data from live network connection or from a captured already-captured packet and also from different networks like IEEE 802.11, PPP, and loopback. This allows them to detect any discrepancies in the initial stages. The IP address and data display can be protected through display filters that detect intruder through their misconducts and safeguard companys website and business. Authentication Application (Kerberos) The prime advantage of this application is that it considered crucial details like clients name, timestamp and encrypted session key. This application also provides faster authentication as it uses a unique ticketing system and only the matched tickets will allow permits by the resource servers. The disadvantage is that the ticket can be used more than once till expiry. This allow hackers to access all the details if they jack the ticket before it expires. Web Security Standards (SSL/TLS)- Citrix NetScaler Solution The prime benefit is that all the organizations members can communicate securely with their own browsers. Another advantage that can be get from this kind of application is deep inspection of the technology and SSL-encrypted traffic through bi-directional parsing and analysis. Citrix NetScaler Solution provides protection for infrastructure and users and XML protection that allows the organization to detecting and blocking common application threats. owever, the disadvantage that is related to this approach is that if a member sends a message from unsecured (non-SSL) email systems, the message will no longer be a secured site and will not be protected by SSL. WireShark The prime advantage of Wireshark is that it provides security protocols to IP and DHCP for leading companies like AppleTalk and BitTorrent. Another advantage is that since this application is developed under an open source model it is easy to include new support tools along with their each updates. The disadvantage is that small organization or new online industry does not incorporate such advance security system due to lack of budget and thus, these applications are not suitable for such organization. Proposal how these applications can expand organization in the next five years The applications that have been mentioned will help in expanding of the business of the organization. The small companies should always focus on the information technology infrastructure. When the organization is generating revenue slowly they should have spent some amount of money on the infrastructure of the organization so that the information technology department can support the operation of the organization (Nguyen, Newby Macaulay, 2015). The relationship between information technology and operations is very important, as it constitutes the business model. When the business of an organization grows information technology infrastructure will have to be increased to make changes in the operations of the organization. Therefore, the organization will require sophisticated software requirements, which is more robust (Bollou, F. 2014). This will support the increase in the number of user applications in the system so the new sophisticated network system that will help in protecting the data and the user applications. In the coming years, the number of employees in the organization will increase and so will the business clients. These network tools will provide security to the organizational data and will help in managing multiple networks at a single time. During the expansion of the business, the transition of the business will be facilitated by the expansion of the network security applications. The amount of data that has been stored in the database of the organization will be huge so the organization will have to make that no data is lost during the transition of the data. This can be maintained by including the above-mentioned network tools which are necessary for keeping the various types of data in the organization safe and secure. This network security software is used by most of the multinational companies in the market and the organization while providing solution to their clients. Therefore, by using these software, the organization will be able to create a secure network for the clients which will help in improving their reputation in the market. When the organization is able to fulfill the needs, and wants of the organization then it will create opportunities to expand their business (Zhang Warner, 2017). The companies in the market will acknowledge the company as a viable option for providing them with solutions. Thus, by including the network security tools, the organization is able to enhance the quality of service they provide to the clients which will definitely be a positive step towards the expansion of business and acquisition of more clients. Whether the organization should focus on customizing off-the-shelf applications or develop products in-house to provide the ongoing security maintenance services to client organizations he needs of the various business organization vary depending upon their magnitude. The application required for the larger organization will be different from that of the small-scale organizations. Similarly, the application will depend on the industry and the operational process of the organization. The application sued for the manufacturing industry will be completely different from that of the retail industry. The companies in the market will making the applications on the basis of the business model of their respective organizations. The organization in todays world are trying to improve their business process using integration which may provide them with competitive advantage in the market (Jolly et al., 2015). The clients will have to identify the right software required for their organization so it is the duty of the vendor to provide the organization with a proper guidance which will help them to understand their requirements. This will help to identify the type of software w hich will be feasible for the operations in the organization. The off the shelf software have lower cost at an upfront level and contains a lot of features most of which is not required by the organization. This software includes support and can contain maintenance contracts. The upgrades of this software are available for free or at a lower cost than the other products (Morrow, 2016). Moreover, when it is used as software as a service the installation cost is even more low as it does not contain any hardware. The products that are made at an inhouse level will consist of the minimum requirements of the clients and other requirements can be added to the software according to the needs of the clients. This software is tailor made which consist of the exact need of the consumer and changes can be made in this system very easily. However, the initial cost of the setting up this software is high and all the extra requirements will be billable and will increase the overall cost of setting up the software. The in-house product is custom made and will consist of the additional cost as it is specific to the organization only (Sekowski Gibbons, 2016). However, the immediate needs and the long-term goals of the organization are two important aspect which has to be taken in to account as balancing both the aspect will be crucial for the clients. However, the organization will have to look in to the needs of the client to identify which type will be better for the client. There are some organization who may require a lot of features so in that scenario it is advisable to use the off the shelf products as the cost will be low and the delivery can be made at a faster rate. However, as most of the clients are of smaller magnitude and consist of small and medium scale industry then it will be best if they provide the organization with in house products. Thus, it can be concluded that in house product will be the best option for the organization as it will help them to provide a better quality of service (Kruger, Abu-Mahfouz Hancke, 201 5). Conclusion In this business report, it is concluded that the information security can be described through three concepts- confidentiality, integrity and availability. This security is necessary so that an organization can securely transmit their details and message with their employees. However, in recent times, hackers and IT intruders hacks all the authentications and access to the companys useful information. Such technologies for network security in recent times are Cloud Access Security Brokers, Endpoint detection and response (EDR), Indicators of Compromise (IOC) and Intelligence-driven security operations centers (ISOCs). However, in this buiness report the three application that is taken into consideration are- Authentication Application (Kerberos), Web Security Standards (SSL/TLS)- Citrix NetScaler Solution and Wire Shark. In addition to that, it is also concluded that all these application uses unique tools not only for securing the website from hackers but these application also determines discrepancies in the initial stages. Moreover, all the small business organizations or entities need IT process to support their business approaches. Thus, implementing these tools will helps all the organizations especially the inline business as all their business processes will be accomplished through online services and websites. This will provide the enterprises the opportunity to grow. Recommendation Thus, it is recommended that the organization should make use of the network security software to expand the business of the organization. The organization will have to provide in house software as a means of solution to their clients which will help them in providing better service than before. Analyse and evaluate Shakespeares use of soliloquy in presenting the developing character of Hamlet Essay Example

Analyse and evaluate Shakespeares use of soliloquy in presenting the developing character of Hamlet Essay Example Analyse and evaluate Shakespeares use of soliloquy in presenting the developing character of Hamlet Paper Analyse and evaluate Shakespeares use of soliloquy in presenting the developing character of Hamlet Paper Essay Topic: Hamlet Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a drama performed between 1599 and 1601. Hamlet is a fusion of many themes, which bond together to form a complex, ambiguous play. Hamlet, simplified, is the story of a man brimming with vengeance, trying to avenge his fathers death which was caused by his uncle, Claudius who then marries Hamlets mother, Gertrude. The death of his father is a tragedy in itself. Perceptions of tragedies differ from individuals perspectives; anything can be a tragic as long as it takes the right composition or form. Calamitous situations weaved with anguish and despair in addition to the possibility of destruction and heartbreak are some of the most common elements employed by tragic writers. Dominant features of a tragedy also include the protagonists downfall, usually a consequence of their hamartia. This is evident in Hamlet. Hamlet, the protagonist encounters anagnorisis due to his hamartia, ultimately leading to death of most of the cast. The complexity of Hamlets character is a mystery to the audience but through soliloquys, William Shakespeare shows the audience Hamlets feelings and thoughts and how they develop. Soliloquies give the audience a chance to connect with the character as it gives the audience a chance to see the character unleashing their inner thoughts. This will lead to the audience being aware of the true identity of the character making it easier for them to comprehend and understand the true depths of both the story and character. Soliloquies are a vital tool used in Hamlet to understand the true insight on Hamlets character. Hamlet freely expresses his inner thoughts through soliloquies, this is the only real time the audience are aware of Hamlets feelings. Also, it gives the audience a chance to try to understand Hamlets complex character. This dramatic device is a key value in understanding the character of Hamlet and how he develops. Hamlet is portrayed by Shakespeare as a complicated individual. He is an enigma wrapped in a paradox. He is a walking contradiction, full of strong emotions just waiting to be unleashed. He is both melancholic but strong willed, even though his greatest weakness is his indecisiveness. He wallows in his grief wanting to take action but never seems to be able to. He is an incredibly articulate and genius character full of wit and intelligence. He is the definition of Aristotles tragic hero. His ambiguity is a conundrum. His personality develops as the play goes on, making his character traits more apparent. We first become aware of the true thoughts of Hamlets character in his first soliloquy. In Act 1 Scene 2 we are met with his mental state. Hamlet is full of grief; he is trying to come to terms with his fathers death but is met with more difficulties. His mother has re-married; she has re-married to his uncle. In this first soliloquy, Hamlet shows signs that can be applied to the aspects of the oedipal complex as part of his character. These soliloquiess aid us in understanding the true depths of Hamlets mind and thought process. The dominant cause of Hamlets grief is his mother re-marrying. He is disgusted that his mother has moved on so quickly and he believes the relationship is incestuous. With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to good. / But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue. (1. 2 . 157-9). However, Hamlet feels he shouldnt intervene and must hold his tongue. Hamlet at this point seems to be more concerned over his mothers affairs rather then his fathers death. Hamlet doesnt discuss how he is feeling about his fathers death. This fits the traits of the oedipal complex. Hamlet is aware his father is dead, subconsciously Hamlet believes now that his father is gone he can have his mother all to himself. However, he is met with a difficulty: Claudius. Hamlet feels great anger and towards Claudius which also fits in with the oedipal complex; hating the father, in this case hating the spouse of his mother. In this soliloquy Hamlet is full of negative emotions, he is showing melancholia, along with anger and frustration and grief too. Now that his father has died he sees no point in living, the world around him seems meaningless. He states How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable, / Seem to me all the uses of this world! the world around him no longer has a use to him. Nothing has a purpose to him. He compares the world with a weeded garden. tis an unweeded garden, /That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature. The words are showing that Hamlet feels the world is corrupt and rotting, and it is also a gross place. He realises that everything in the end will turn bad, and rank. He seems to think everything around him has decayed and nothing will really flourish anymore, everything he was comfortable with has just been taken away from him instantaneously and he doesnt seem to think anything will get better. Hamlet in contrast to Claudius sees his father as amazing. He thinks his father was excellent and now that Claudius is taking his place so quickly and his mother hasnt even had time to grieve, he finds that unbearable. O, God! beast, that wants discourse of reason, / Would have mournd longermarried with my uncle Hamlet think that even an animal would have mourned longer then what his mother did. He feels as though she is moving on too quickly. Hamlet seems to be trapped in the memory of his father, he doesnt seem to be completely grief ridden but it seems like he wants to reminisce his fathers existence. He wants to be close to his mother too, and he feels like its her duty to mourn. Going into another relationship so abruptly leaves Hamlet feeling as though she felt nothing towards her father. Hamlet believes all the tears she cried for him must therefore be fake. Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears/ Had left the flushing in her galled eyes She doesnt deserve to mourn, in Hamlets eyes. Hamlet at this point in the play is experiencing melancholia. He is grieving and is faced with more problems. This soliloquy helps us understand what Hamlet is feeling about the situation. Hamlet at this point is still an enigmatic character although he is showing his frustration quite clearly; he is yet to act upon his feelings and is trapped within his mind. Although he is feeling great annoyance towards the whole situation he hasnt confronted his mother about it yet. As the play progresses Hamlets character traits become more apparent. His indecisiveness is demonstrated in this soliloquy. He is confused about life and is contemplating suicide in Act 3 Scene 1 (lines 56-89). He is debating two possible scenarios; to live or to die. To be or not to be. This soliloquy unlike his other soliloquies is quite a thorough, thought out one. He is not in complete despair or anger, he is calm. Hamlet starts a philosophical speech on the good and bad sides of living. Hamlets predicament is that he is so unhappy with living; he just doesnt see the point of existing anymore. He is speculating whether death would actually be better then living. However, Hamlet is also acknowledging the fact that as he hasnt experienced death before he doesnt know how it is going to be like; he is not sure if he wants to take the chance and die; it could be a lot worse then living. If Hamlet does commit suicide there is no coming back. Shakespeare uses interesting phrases to create a vivid image in the audiences mind. Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, by comparing his situation to a sea of troubles creates an image in the audiences mind. This line can also demonstrate the physical representation of his mind. Like a sea of troubles everything is crashing inside him, nothing is going the right way. He wants to fight his despair but he doesnt see the point. He is thinking to maybe take the risk of suicide To sleep: perchance to dream. Perhaps if he died, he wou ld take the chance of falling into an eternal slumber, to dream to be at peace. However, he does realise that no-one can come back once they have taken their lives. The undiscoverd country from whose bourn/ No traveller returns. He is not willing to take the risk at this point. Hamlet associates death as a peaceful concept. He uses positive words to describe it. To sleep, to dream. As his life is filled with torment he sees death as an escape, to fall asleep and never wake, to live in a fantasy and dream. This soliloquy is showing us the paradox of Hamlets situation. He is required to kill Claudius because his father has told him to do so. But he also has his mind bent towards suicide. The 6th commandment prevents Hamlet from killing Claudius. Killing ones self is also going against the commandment. Also, Hamlet realises that if he does kill Claudius his outcome may be sentenced to a life time in hell. He doesnt really take this into consideration and really wants to kill Claudius and avenge his fathers death. He is stuck between two things, to listen to his father and kill Claudius and end up going to hell or let his fathers death go unpunished in this life. This is mentally eating up Hamlet. Since Hamlet is a firm believer in Christianity he should realise that Claudiuss crime wont go un punishable but he still feels obliged to avenge his fathers death. He is stuck in the situation. Hamlets mental state is not stable. He is always changing his moods abruptly and his soliloquies show his instability. His character at this point is reaching a climax. So far he hasnt acted upon filling his fathers wish although he really wants to do so. His indecisiveness has prevented him to do so. Although opportunities to do so have arised, he didnt take them. Hamlet finds a perfect chance to kill Claudius. But he thinks Claudius is praying. In the fourth soliloquy he expresses his thoughts on this (Act 3, scene 3 lines 73-97). Claudius is praying for forgiveness for what he has done. Hamlet believes if he kills Claudius now he will be forgiven and sent to heaven. Hamlet does not think this is the right moment to kill him now because his heinous crime will go unpunished, he wants Claudius o suffer for what he did. A villain kills my father; and for that / I, his sole son, do the same villain send / to heaven. Hamlet feels like its his duty to avenge his fathers death as he is the only son. He thinks if he kills Claudius now, his crime will go unpunished. Hamlet wants to ensure Claudius gets what he deserves: damnation. He feels like it is his duty to fulfil this. Then trip him, that his heels may kick at heaven, / And that his soul may be as damnd and black / As hell, whereto it goes. He wants to make sure there is no way Claudius will go to heaven. O, this is hire and salary, not revenge. This is not something Hamlet sees as revenge, but something he must do, something compulsory. These three soliloquies demonstrate Hamlets character and it shows his character development also. They portray his indecisiveness; he doesnt know when to kill Claudius. As he leaves it to the very end to take action the play ends in tragedy, naturally. He becomes more and more aware of his duty and feels the need to have to take Claudiuss life. Although Hamlets character seems to feign insanity by the end of the play Hamlets negative mind is definitely over powering him which leads to his mental breakdown. The soliloquies are successful in showing this as the audience get to see the slow progression of his insanity and how his character fully develops.

Much Ado about nothing Essays

Much Ado about nothing Essays Much Ado about nothing Paper Much Ado about nothing Paper Essay Topic: Much Ado about Nothing Much Ado About Nothing was written in 1600 by William Shakespeare. The play is set in Messina, Sicily however it shows typical English comedy characteristics for that time. I find this unusual because not many people travelled far from home. Relationships are shown in various ways throughout the play using themes such as love, romance and patriarchal society. The main relationships which are portrayed are between Hero and Claudio and Beatrice and Benedick. Act two scene one is the masked ball. Conversations take place between a number of couples; this makes the scene seem lively and gives a sense of movement. The character Beatrice is attracted to Benedick. However Shakespeare confuses the audience by having Beatrice pass insults to Benedick, masking her real feelings. Beatrice says to Benedick why he is the Princes jester, a very dull fool; only his gift is in devising impossible slanders. Beatrice is teasing Benedick so that her real feelings towards him are concealed. Don John appears to deliberately try to cause problems in the relationship between Hero and Claudio by claiming how canst thou cross this marriage? Don John is showing his distaste for the marriage his brother arranged. This is because Don John is jealous of his brothers higher status and success. Because he is illegitimate, he does what he can to cause problems for his brother and his friends. Act four scene one, the wedding scene, starts with the marriage of Hero and Claudio, who are genuinely in love. However the wedding does not go as planned as Claudio was tricked by Don John into believing Hero had not been faithful the previous night. Claudio reveals his cruel side by making this fact known in public at the wedding, disgracing Hero and her family. He adds further insult by saying give not this rotten orange to your friend; this is a metaphor claiming Hero is rotten on the inside but outwardly she appears sweet which adds to the continuing theme of appearance versus reality. Claudio also calls her an approved wanton which literally means prostitute. Hero attempts to reclaim her innocence by answering I talked with no man at that hour, my lord but otherwise does not defend herself. This is in keeping with the behaviour of women at that time who were expected to be passive and submissive. Leonato chooses to believe the accusations; he shows no mercy for his own child and wishes her dead by stating death is the fairest cover for her shame that may be wished for. This shows that father/daughter relationships werent as relaxed as they are now as the daughter had everything planned for her by the father. Also the quote shows that language was much more dramatic in Shakespearian times. This also reminds us of Shakespeares Romeo Juliet where Juliets father Lord Capulet was quick to disown her as soon as she went against his word. Further on in act four Benedick says to Beatrice I do love nothing in the world so well as you and eventually despite her protests against marriage and relationships, Beatrice acknowledges her concealed love for Benedick by saying I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest. Beatrice then demands that Benedick Kill Claudio in revenge for the shame inflicted upon her cousin Hero. When Benedick refuses she claims that he does not love her and that they can only be friends. Beatrice was testing Benedick to find out how far he was willing to go to prove his love for her. This also shows the extent people had to go to in those days to uphold family honour. Also in this scene Beatrice declares O God that I were a man! I would eat his heart in the market place. The quotation shows her distaste for Claudio and what he did to her cousin and that she wants Claudio to be humiliated publicly just like Hero. The quote also shows that it was not considered a womans place to disagree with a man. She repeats several times her wish to be a man which highlights the lack of power women had. Shakespeare has shown that in Much Ado About Nothing the play has a moral context in which women were required to be maidens at marriage. Shakespeare has used some poetic language, particularly in declarations of love between characters; he does this by changing between verse and prose. There is also irony and humour in the form of Beatrices disapproval of marriage, which completely changes when the relationship between her and Benedick grows.
